Approximately 25,000 runners and cyclists are expected to participate in the full marathon, half marathon, VW 26.2 Think Blue Bike Tour and Bubba Gump Run Forrest Run 5K on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012 along with 2,000 children taking part in The Aquarium of the Pacific Kids One-Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Oct. 6.  An estimated 50,000 people attend the two-day Health and Fitness Expo while an additional 50,000 attend the Finish Line Festival.  Since 2005, the event has raised more than $4 million for its official charities.

“The Long Beach Marathon is one of the biggest events in area. As the largest airline at Long Beach Airport, this is just one of the many ways we’ve become a part of the community that has been so supportive of us,” said Jace Hieda, regional marketing manager, JetBlue. “We’ve called Long Beach home for more than 10 years now, and we’re excited for the upcoming opening of the new Passenger Concourse at Long Beach Airport, further enhancing the customer experience.”

JetBlue’s history with Long Beach dates back to 2005 becoming the first of many major marathon events that JetBlue has sponsored.  Last year, the relationship expanded to include Long Beach and Los Angeles JetBlue staff handing out the finisher medals to participants as they crossed the finish line.  Additionally, JetBlue will have branding ownership of the Final Mile and Participant Finish Line video provided by Brightroom Photography.

“JetBlue is the gold standard in the Airline industry and their support over the past 8 years has contributed significantly to the Long Beach athlete experience.  Now the JetBlue team is even more involved by personally presenting medals to finishers.  We are grateful and excited to have JetBlue extend the relationship for another 3 years,” said John Parks, EVP, Marketing, Run Racing.
